SPEAKER TO ADDRESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ISSUES

A speaker who has personal connections to an individual whose death made national headlines will appear in Emmetsburg later this year.

Tanya Brown, whose sister, Nicole Brown Simpson, was married to O.J. Simpson, will travel to Iowa in late April to make an appearance to educate local communities on domestic violence and raise the level of awareness on the issue.

Brown, who has dedicated her life to help reduce domestic violence, travels around the world pursuing her mission.

She will appear April 26 at Iowa Lakes Community College's Smith Wellness Center in Emmetsburg.

Students have been working for several months to secure Brown as a speaker.

Brown has committed to the date and students are finalizing fund raising efforts.  At the present time, students have secured funding from the Child Care Club as well as the Student Senate from the Emmetsburg Campus.  In addition, they are conducting raffles to help in raising money.  An account has been established at the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Emmetsburg for individuals who would like to make a direct donation to support Brown's appearance. For more information, contact Tresa Haupert at (712) 324-0128.
