AUDITION DATES SET FOR COMMUNITY MUSICAL
Auditions for a musical
planned in Estherville this spring will be held on Feb. 2 and 3.
The play, which is coordinated by staff members of Iowa Lakes
Community College, is open to all area residents.
With the success in recent years of "The Music Man" and "The
Melody Lingers On - The Songs of Irving Berlin," Iowa Lakes has
chosen to present another musical revue and invite area residents
to become a part of it.
Auditions will be held Feb. 2 and 3 in room 74 at the Estherville
Campus. Children interested in auditioning should arrive at 6 p.m.
each evening and adults will begin auditioning at 7 p.m. nightly.
Those interested need to attend only one of the two sessions.
"'An Evening with Gershwin' is a musical revue of George
Gershwin's life and music," said Carol Ayres, Professor of
Instrumental Music. "'Strike Up The Band,' 'Someone To Watch Over
Me,' 'Fascinating Rhythm,' and 'I Got Rhythm' are just a few of
the familiar numbers included in the show."
"We don't need people with a lot of acting experience. We need
people who can share information on Gershwin's life and music.
For this production we should have between 10 and 75 adults and
children," said Mari Miller Burns, Assistant Professor of Speech
Communication.
Ayres will be working in tandem with Burns and Brett Fuelberth,
Assistant Professor of Vocal Music, on the project.
"We need lots of people with a variety of talents," Fuelberth
said. "Those who are skilled in make-up and hair can help as well
as those who like to hammer and paint sets or design costumes."
Rehearsals will start on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. in Room 60.
Performance dates are April 1-3. All area residents are
encouraged to audition for the musical revue.
