IOWA LAKES JAZZ CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

 

The last day of competition in the 29^th Annual Jazz Band Contest at Iowa Lakes Community College has been completed. Winners from today are listed below:

Class 3A
1.      Spirit Lake High School Jazz 1- Pam Hauser, Director
2.      Storm Lake High School - Frank Hoskins, Director
3.      MOC Floyd Valley High School - Mary Hulstein, Director

Despite the sometimes inclement weather during the 3-days of competition, 37 bands from 33 high schools participated in this year’s event.  Each band was judged by two professional jazz musicians who recognize outstanding performances and offer tips for improvement.  The goal of the Iowa Lakes Jazz Band competition is to allow students to test their jazz skills against other high schools prior to regional and state contests.
