ACADEMIC DECATHLON WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Students from three high schools competed in the Area III Academic Decathlon Friday at the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.

Southern Cal - 'A' Team won the competition with Spirit Lake -'A' Team taking second and Algona - 'A' Team placing third.

In addition, the top overall score went to Maleta Smith of Southern Cal with 5,662 points.

A total of six teams competed - two from each high school.

Individuals participated in speech, interview, music, art, science, math, economics and language arts.  Thursday evening, the students participated in team competition of a "Super Quiz Relay."  The topic was Lewis and Clark - the 200th anniversary of their famous expedition.

Once the statewide scores are tallied, top winners will advance to the state competition in Denison.
