IOWA
LAKES SOFTBALL TEAM PLANS ANNUAL SPRING TRIP
Spring Break at Iowa
Lakes Community College signals the start off the 2004 Softball
season as the Lakers travel to Alabama and Florida for the start
of the 2004 campaign.
The Lakers will take on
Faulkner State Community College in a double header for their
first game of the season. They then travel to Florida for several
games before returning to Estherville on March 16.
The first home game for
the Laker women is scheduled for March 19 against Ridgewater
Community College. Four sophomores are returning the squad:
Tracee Kroese of Spirit Lake; Cassie Slagerman of Stacy, Minn.;
Sarah Follmer of Como Park, Minn.; and Abby Schmidt of
Worthington, Minn. Freshmen students on the team include: Kristin
Van Hook of Bellville, Texas; Jenni Zealley and Erin Jones of
Cedar Rapids; Angie Hoff, Angie Gottsleben
and Nicole Johnson of Brandon S.D.; Molly Caron of Mankato, Minn.;
Tracy Birkenholtz of Baxter; Laura Peters of Spencer; and Kelly
Reinders of Okoboji.
"Having the opportunity to play early has always been vital to our
success", said Mike Bosch, head softball coach. "This is the
seventh year we have spent part of March in Florida and it is a
great experience for our team on and off the field."
The Laker women start
the season unranked; but they have received votes in a pre-season
poll of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The
Lakers ended the 2003 season with a record of 35-18. The 2004
season will be Coach Bosch's 7th season at the helm of the Laker
team over the years; he has coached five all-Americans and two
Academic
All-Americans.
