FEBRUARY PARENT EDUCATION WORKSHOP PLANNED
February's Parent
Education workshops in Estherville will focus on age-appropriate
discipline and logical consequences for children's behaviors.
Those attending the
workshop will gain information and discuss ways of effectively
using logical consequences to teach children of all ages to accept
responsibility for their own behavior. The Eight Principles for
Effective Parenting will be presented. The instructor will be
Joyce Yates Gardner, Outpatient Therapist, Seasons Center.
The monthly Family
Education workshop is made available by a grant from Prevent Child
Abuse Iowa and is geared toward parents (custodial and
non-custodial), foster parents, grandparents, teachers, child care
providers, and other community members interested in the
well-being of infants, children, pre-teens and teens.
This workshop will be
held Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Demoney Elementary
School, 109 South 17th Street, Estherville. A light supper
follows until 7 p.m. which is provided for all participants. Free
childcare and Hispanic translation will also be provided.
Topics for future
Parent Education workshops include Portion Distortion and Why
Children Misbehave on March 9, and Sexual Assault and Child Abuse
Awareness on April 13.
