FEBRUARY PARENT EDUCATION WORKSHOP PLANNED

February's Parent Education workshops in Estherville will focus on age-appropriate discipline and logical consequences for children's behaviors.

Those attending the workshop will gain information and discuss ways of effectively using logical consequences to teach children of all ages to accept responsibility for their own behavior.  The Eight Principles for Effective Parenting will be presented.  The instructor will be Joyce Yates Gardner, Outpatient Therapist, Seasons Center.

The monthly Family Education workshop is made available by a grant from Prevent Child Abuse Iowa and is geared toward parents (custodial and non-custodial), foster parents, grandparents, teachers, child care providers, and other community members interested in the well-being of infants, children, pre-teens and teens.

This workshop will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Demoney Elementary School, 109 South 17th Street, Estherville.  A light supper follows until 7 p.m. which is provided for all participants.  Free childcare and Hispanic translation will also be provided.

Topics for future Parent Education workshops include Portion Distortion and Why Children Misbehave on March 9, and Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness on April 13.

Questions may be directed to Linda Wiegman, Parent Education Coordinator, 712-362-7926 or 1-800-242-5106.
