EMMET COUNTY FAMILY WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER

The Emmet County Family Education Workshops are scheduled to continue on December 14 and will offer practical and effective discipline strategies to reduce parenting stress and opposition. Joyce Gardner, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, will discuss positive discipline techniques such as setting limits and logical consequences. Those attending will explore the reasons why children misbehave and the importance of consistency in discipline.

Additional information will be presented on “Goals of Behavior” from the nationally acclaimed Active Parenting Now curriculum which uses video, activities and discussion to show ways parents can raise responsible, cooperative children who are able to resist negative peer pressure.

These workshops will be on Tuesday, December 14 at Demoney Elementary School, 109 South 17th Street, Estherville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for registration, with the workshops held from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m., followed by a light supper which is provided for all participants. Free childcare and Hispanic translation are also available at no charge.

The workshops are made available by a grant from Prevent Child Abuse Iowa and are geared toward parents (custodial and noncustodial), foster parents, grandparents, teachers, child care providers, and other community members interested in the well-being of infants, children, pre-teens and teens.

On January 11th the Parenting Workshops will be held at Armstrong-Ringsted School with the topic of Conflict Resolution. The January 18th workshop at Demoney School in Estherville will be on Balancing Life/Stress Management.
