IOWA LAKES STUDENTS PLACE AT SkillsUSA-VICA STATE COMPETITION
Eleven students from Iowa Lakes
Community College were among the winners at the annual statewide
SkillsUSA-VICA competition held in eastern Iowa Thursday.
First place awards went to Dallas
Maday, Jesse Pergande, Joshua Ludovissy, Jason Dearchs, Matthew
Kuennen, Adam Bradshaw, Martin Dahl, Trapper Griese, Adam Hibbing,
Rick Hoekstra and Jonathan Cretsinger.
Maday, of Ringsted, won in the postsecondary division of Collision
Repair; Pergande, of Armstrong, took top honors as a secondary
student in Collision Repair; Ludovissy, of North Buena Vista, won
in the postsecondary class in Marine Service; Dearchs, of Algona,
took top honors as a secondary student in Motorcycle Service;
Kuennen, of Waucoma, won first place in Motorcycle Service in the
postsecondary class; Bradshaw, of Maurice, won in Power Equipment
Technology, postsecondary; Dahl, from Swea City, was the winner in
Power Equipment Technology, secondary; and, Griese, of Dolliver,
Hibbing, of Paullina, Hoekstra, from Maurice, and Cretsinger, of
Coon Rapids, were part of a postsecondary team that took first
place in Team Works.
Maday and Griese were both former Regional Academy students in the
Collision and Construction programs respectively. Pergande and
Dahl are current Regional Academy students in the Collision and
Motorcycle programs respectively. The Regional Academy allows
students to take college credit courses on the Emmetsburg Campus
while still in high school. Dearchs is a Regional Academy student
enrolled in the Automotive Technology program located at Algona
High School.
Second place awards went to Daniel Burrs (Corwith, Diesel
Equipment, secondary); Travis Shimons (Rolfe, Marine Service,
postsecondary); Darren Dennis (Spencer, Motorcycle Service,
postsecondary); Brandon Becker (Burt, Power Equipment Technology,
postsecondary); and, Michael Young (Ayrshire, Welding,
postsecondary).
Third place awards were won Darrin Frey (Cherokee, Marine Service,
postsecondary); Nickolas Edwards, (Tea, SD, Motorcycle Service,
postsecondary); Brian Smith (Cherokee, Power Equipment Technology,
postsecondary); and, Eric Frederick (Emmetsburg, Collision Repair,
secondary). Frederick is also a Regional Academy student at the
college.
All first place winners will advance to the national competition
this summer in Kansas City, Mo., June 21-25.
