INSPIRATIONAL IOWAN IS KEYNOTE SPEAKER
FOR SENIOR FUN AND WELLNESS DAY

A native Iowan who has spent his life in coaching and sports will be the featured speaker at the Senior Fun and Wellness Day May 19 in Emmetsburg.  Bernie Saggau is known for his motivational speeches.

Saggau, who may best be known for his work as the executive director of the Iowa High School Athletic Association for nearly four decades, will entertain and inspire those attending the Wellness Day.  He has been a teacher, coach, principal and business man. 

Saggau grew up in Denison, participating in numerous high school sports.  He attended Buena Vista University, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1950.  His life has spanned many decades of athletics and one of his legacies is an award named after him which goes to an outstanding athlete in each of Iowa's 400 high schools.

Saggau will open the Senior Fun and Wellness Day which will be held at the Smith Wellness Center of Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. 

Senior Fun and Wellness Day is held annually and features a day of activities, health screenings, workshops and entertainment. 

Individuals interested in attending should call 1-800-252-5664 as soon as possible and register for course number 38807N.

As always the event will also feature a plethora of concurrent sessions.  Sessions range from Health Care and Travel, to Computers and Estate Planning.  There will also be sessions on: Antiques; Camp Algona; Fraud Protection; Quilting; Orphan Train; Acupuncture; World War II; Cooking; Pilates; Genealogy; Massage; and, many more.

All participants are encouraged to enter the college through the Wellness Center entrance (#22), which is on the east side of the building.  This location will provide easier building access to participants and less walking between sessions. 

The event will begin at 8 a.m. with registration, wellness & resource information, coffee and muffins.  The keynote speaker will begin at 9 a.m. To reserve a Dinner Date meal, register by May 12.  Registration for the day's activities is free with a contribution for Dinner Date. 

The Senior Fun and Wellness Day is sponsored by Iowa Lakes Community College, Palo Alto County Health System and Northwest Aging Association.
