IOWA LAKES SOFTBALL SIGNS NEW MEXICO STANDOUT
Iowa Lakes Community
College Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch has announced the signing
of Leslie Benavidez, utility player from Albuquerque, New Mexico,
to a National Junior College letter of intent.
Benavidez was a 2002
and 2003 All District selection as well as a 2002 and 2003
Academic All District selection. While playing ASA with the
Albuquerque SOL last summer Benavidez compiled a .407 batting
average with 15 doubles, 7 triples and 1 home run while helping
the SOL team reach the ASA Nationals. She also had a .678
slugging percentage to go along with the 26 RBIs that she posted.
"Leslie is just a great
athlete with speed and power," commented Coach Bosch. "She has
been asked to pitch for her high school team and has played nearly
every other position for her travel ball club. You can see her
versatility being a strong asset for our team next season and we
are very excited to have her in blue and gold."
Leslie is the daughter
of Steve and Emily Benavidez and will be enrolled in the Arts and
Science program in Estherville.
Leslie joins a Laker
program that went 34-18 last season, has produced 5 All-Americans
and is currently ranked #9 in the nation.
