SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY WEEK OBSERVED SEPT. 21-27
Students in the Surgical Technology program at Iowa Lakes
Community College will be observing the week of Sept. 21-27 as
Surgical Technology week. The theme for this year’s celebration is
“Operating Excellence.”
Surg Tech students will host a recognition day during the week for
students from the Spencer Center of Iowa Lakes. Their intention
is to educate individuals – both inside and outside the profession
– of the role and importance of the Certified Surgical
Technologist.
Those attending will be treated to snacks and games as well as
tours of the Surgical Suite at the college.
Something new to the program this fall is a mentorship using the
Association of Surgical Technologists website that will connect
students with veteran Surgical Technologist currently practicing
in the field. Students will gain insight and valuable information
from the mentors.
In addition, the program benefits from a local connection.
“We are also grateful for the preceptors at all of the area
hospitals who allow our students to learn from their years of
experience,” said Dana Grafft, instructor for the program.
“Without the help and support of the preceptors and the hospitals,
our program would not be possible.”
The Surgical Technology program is based at the Spencer Center of
Iowa Lakes. The program is currently in its third year of
operation. The program recently received a special award from the
Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST),
commending the program for a 100 percent pass rate of the National
Certification Exam.
