IOWA LAKES BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MEET STUDENT LEADERS

The Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College met the 2003-2004 student leaders of the college at their monthly meeting Wednesday night in Estherville.

Students who will be serving as student senators and resident assistants as well as Presidential Scholars and student-athletes were introduced to the board.  The student leaders talked about why they selected Iowa Lakes and the duties of their specific roles.  Students on hand included:  Leesie Braswell of Victor; Cory Flint of Okoboji; Erin Jones of Cedar Rapids; Laura Peters of Spencer; and, Jamie Pedersen of LuVerne.  Those involved in Student Senate talked about the variety of leadership opportunities available to students.  All campuses and centers have student senate members who plan activities and coordinate events for their individual locations.  This year the Emmetsburg Campus Student Senate is led by Jamie Pedersen of LuVerne, while Mike Plathe of Algona is the president at the Estherville Campus.

A public hearing was also held at the meeting concerning the sale of a portion of the lower level of the Spencer Center.  Property on the lower level of the facility sold for $25,500.

In other routine business, the Trustees approved 260F retraining agreements; held the first reading of policy revisions; approved the amended articles of incorporation and 28-E agreement for the college’s participation in an updated Management Information System; and, heard reports from the several committees.

The next meeting of the Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Estherville.
