SMITH WELLNESS CENTER RECEIVES "ICEBERG" FOR
ITS POOL
It's "cool" - but it's
not cold.
A newly acquired 'iceberg' is in the Arthur and Audrey Smith
Wellness Center Swimming Pool and it's getting quite a lot of
'after school' attention from students. It's an inflatable unit
that has a climbing wall on one side and a slide on the other
side.
The 'iceberg' was purchased through a grant from Mercy Medical
Center - North Iowa;s Community Benefit Ministry Fund. It's part
of an effort to help keep children healthy.
"As you've heard in the news, childhood obesity is becoming a
problem," said Deb Knight of the Smith Wellness Center.
"Eventually, the cost of health care will dramatically increase so
we're offering education to young people to help them combine
healthy snacks with exercise for a healthy lifestyle."
The name of the program is "Fit and Fun." Each Tuesday and
Thursday, the iceberg's in the water. On Tuesday, third, fourth
and fifth grades have access to the pool after school until 4:30
p.m. Thursday is the day set aside for kindergarten through
second grade. Space is limited and preregistration is required.
Individuals with questions about the program may contact Knight at
