THOMAS BROTHERTON NAMED NEW
EXECUTIVE DEAN OF THE EMMETSBURG CAMPUS

Iowa
Lakes Community College has a new Executive Dean of the Emmetsburg
Campus, pending Board of Trustees action. Thomas Brotherton, of
Creston was selected following a round of two-day interviews with
four candidates.
Thomas Brotherton
is currently a Director of Arts and Sciences at
Southwestern Community College in Creston. In that position, he
administers the instructional programs in the Arts and Sciences
area. |

According to Dr.
Rick Underbakke, Chief Academic Officer at Iowa
Lakes, “Tom brings a diverse set of experiences. He has been
involved in innovative projects such as online education through
the Iowa Community College Online Consortium as a faculty member
and administrator. He will be a valuable asset to the Emmetsburg
campus and community as well as the administrative team at Iowa
Lakes Community College.”
Brotherton has
been at Southwestern since 1985. He works with two centers,
distance learning, strategic planning, assessment, budgeting and
the accreditation process at the college. In addition, he reviews
faculty teaching loads and oversees scheduling and room
assignments. He has also been an online instructor of an
introductory biology course.
Prior to his
current job, he was an instructor of Biological Sciences at
Southwestern. He also taught at the middle school/high school
level in the Shelby-Tennant Community School
District.
Brotherton earned
his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in
botany education. He also attended the Graduate College at the U
of I in Secondary Science Education. Brotherton’s master’s degree
is in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Brotherton is
expected to begin work at Iowa Lakes in January of
2004.
