NOVEMBER PARENT EDUCATION WORKSHOP PLANNED
November's Parent
Education workshops will focus on helping families deal with
Internet safety and creating family environments based on mutual
respect.
In today's highly technical and fast-paced society, families are
faced with a variety of stressors and challenges. With that in
mind, the topics for the Parent Education workshops will be
Computer and Internet Safety and Handling Problems and Building
Cooperation.
Those attending the Computer and Internet Safety workshop will
gain information and strategies to instruct children about both
the benefits and dangers of cyberspace. Tips will be given to
parents to teach their children how to be "street smart" on the
Information Super-Highway in order to better safeguard them in any
potentially dangerous situation.
Those attending the Handling and Building Cooperation workshop
will study from the national acclaimed Active Parenting Now
curriculum which uses video, activities and discussion to show
ways parents can raise responsible, cooperative children who are
able to resist negative peer pressure.
These workshops will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Demoney
Elementary School, 109 South 17th Street, Estherville. Both
workshops will be offered from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., followed by
supper, which is served at 6:30 p.m. Free childcare and Hispanic
translation will also be provided. A grant from Prevent Child
Abuse Iowa makes this possible.
The free Family Workshops are planned for anyone interested in the
health and well-being of infants, children and teens, including
parents (custodial and non-custodial), foster parents,
grandparents, teachers, childcare providers, and other community
members. Preregistration for the workshops is not necessary.
Questions may be directed to Linda Wiegman, Parent
Education Coordinator, 712-362-7926 or 1-800-242-5106.
