LAKER
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYERS VOLUNTEER AT LOCAL SCHOOL
The Laker Men's
Basketball team has been volunteering their time several hours a
week in the classroom and on the playground at Estherville Lincoln
Central Elementary with kindergarten through third grade students.
Whether the players were being read to or the one doing the
reading each member of the team enjoyed this new experience.
"It was exciting to see the kids work so well with me and to see
the smiles on their faces when I walked in the door," said Laker's
player Charles Cleveland of Milwaukee.
Remy Martin, also of Milwaukee, said "Working with the kids was a
joy for me. It was a great idea of Coach Vande Brake and Coach
Stokes and I miss the kids already."
With the 2003-04 season under way, the players have had to
temporarily divert their energy to practices, games and, of
course, their own academics, but plan to return to ELC Elementary
at the completion of the Laker basketball season.
In the meantime, the youngsters can still enjoy seeing the Lakers
in action at Iowa Lakes home games.
