STUDENT SENATORS PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP
CONFERENCE
Sixteen
student senators of Iowa Lakes Community College recently attended
the 2003 Statewide Leadership Conference held in Dubuque.
During the weekend event, student senators had an opportunity to
attend sessions on leadership skills and learn techniques to
improve student participation on their campus.
It was also an opportunity to meet other student senators for the
15 community colleges from across the state and network on
different activities that are popular on each campus. Break-out
sessions during the weekend included: Service Learning Projects,
Ways to Run an Effective Meeting, Personality Styles, Teambuilding
and Stress Management.
State Senator "Jack" Kibbie of Emmetsburg led one of the
sessions. Kibbie, former Board of Trustees President of Iowa
Lakes Community College, recalled the early years of the birth of
Iowa's community colleges.

President Jamie Pederson of LuVerne, Vice President Jess Stevens
of Emmetsburg, secretary-treasurer Mardee Frieders of Luverne,
Adam Gisch of Algona, Tara Tastert of Rock Rapids, Jana
Trierweiler of Arnolds Park, Adam Bradshaw of Maurice; (from the
Estherville Campus) President Mike Plathe of Algona, Vice
President Heidie Lotz of Pocahontas, Andy Preston of Lake Park,
Ashley Kriewell of Blue Earth, Minn., Ashley Lastine of Clarinda,
Craig Denny of Hartley; (from the Spencer Campus) Rachel Riedell
of Wall Lake, Lindsey Robinson of Terril, and, Alethea Seydlitz of
Spencer.
This was the 25th year that the community colleges of Iowa held a
Statewide Leadership Conference.
