SPENCER CAMPUS STUDENT ELECTED TO STATE POST
An Iowa Lakes Community College student was elected last month to
serve as the vice president of the Business Professionals of
America, Iowa Association.
Amy Galik, a sophomore student in the Medical Secretary Specialist
program, was elected at the state meeting of the organization held
in Des Moines.
"My advisor, Becky Simons, convinced me that it'd be a good idea
to run for the office," said Galik. "I had been a member of the
local chapter for a year and realized how beneficial it would be
to hold a state office."
In addition to her duties as vice president of the state
organization, Galik is also serving as the president of the
Spencer Chapter.
Last year, Galik served as the parliamentarian of the Spencer
Chapter of BPA.
As state vice president, it will be Galik's job to assist the
president in planning meetings and organizing the "Torch Awards"
program at the end of the year.
The Spencer Chapter has been active in those awards. In recent
years the chapter has won the traveling trophy for Special
Olympics as well as a 'Chapter Activities Award of Excellence,'
'Chapter Media' award and an "Outstanding Achievement' award.
Galik's term of office will conclude in October of 2004.
