EMMETSBURG STUDENT SENATORS HELP DISTRIBUTE QUILTS

Student senators on the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College will be distributing quilts this holiday season to those in need.

The college students and the Riverside Club of Graettinger were joined in the project this year by the Bethel Lutheran Ladies of Graettinger.

This will be third year of the cooperative effort that involves the student senators in 'service learning' in this region.

"Our students gain a lot from this type of event," said Bill Lapczenski, Student Senate Advisor.  "It's an opportunity for them to be involved in activities outside of the classroom setting."

"The students are especially appreciative for all the hard work and time involved to put together such nice quilts," Lapczenski added. The quilts will be donated to those in need at homeless shelters as well as to area nursing homes.

"We're proud of the young people and their efforts to give back to their communities," Lapczenski said. "Volunteerism is something that will hopefully continue to be a part of their lives for years to come."
