TRUSTEES GET 'TUNED UP' ON MUSIC
The Board of Trustees
of Iowa Lakes Community College learned more about instrumental
music opportunities for students of the college at their meeting
in Estherville Tuesday afternoon.
Carol Ayres, professor of instrumental music, and, Brett Fuelberth,
associate professor or vocal music, told the Trustees about music
options available to students who wish to continue to be active in
music after high school. Instrumental students may participate in
Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Handbells, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind
Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Concert Band. Vocal music
students have opportunities to participate in Pop Singers, Jazz
Singers, Men's Chorus, Women's Chorus and Concert Choir.
Just last week, the college hosted its annual jazz festival. The
jazz festival is a fun learning experience for all who are
involved. Around 350 area students from 13 schools attended.
Most had an opportunity to be evaluated by the experts in a clinic
setting prior to participating in any regional or state
competitions.
The Trustees also approved 260F training agreements as well as an
ISJIT (Iowa Schools Joint Investment Trust) agreement. The ISJIT
action clarified the existing plan and made it more flexible to
allow the group to work with service providers to ensure a variety
of distribution and marketing services.
They then turned to other reports from fellow Trustees who serve
on committees and councils; and, other routine business was
conducted.
The next meeting of the
Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, Dec. 16 in
Estherville.
