IOWA LAKES SOFTBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-REGION
The All-Region softball team has been named and six Iowa Lakes
Community College athletes have been selected. The players are
selected by and voted upon by the coaches in Region XI.
Named to the first team were sophomore catcher Kristi Henrichsen,
sophomore outfielder Lindsay Reiter, and sophomore pitcher Sonjia
Schuurmans.
Henrichsen batted .318 this past season with 14 doubles, two triples
and nine home runs. Henrichsen was also named as a Region XI
All-American candidate.
Reiter finished the season with a .357 batting average with 16 doubles
and 7 triples. She leaves Iowa Lakes after compiling 101 hits in her
career, 94 runs(which ranks her 4th on the all time list),
26 doubles and 40 stolen bases (which ranks her 5th).
Later this month Reiter will be named as an Academic All-American.
Schuurmans finished the season with a .370 batting average with 7
doubles and a single season Iowa Lakes record 16 home runs. Her .803
slugging percentage was also a single season record. On the mound,
Schuurmans finished with a 8-4 record and a 1.00 ERA(the lowest ERA in
college history). For her career Schuurmans finished with 23 home
runs (1st at Iowa Lakes), 96 RBIs (4th on
all-time list), and 144 strikeouts (1st all-time at Iowa
Lakes). Schuurmans will also be a Region XI All-American candidate
later this month.
Named to the second team was sophomore pitcher Katie Rice and freshman
second baseman Tracee Kroese.
Rice finished the season with a 13-9 record and a 2.20 ERA, the second
best single season ERA only behind Schuurmans 1.00.
Kroese finished the season with a .331 batting average and her 56 hits
were a team high. Kroese also added 14 stolen bases and was 2-1 with
a 1.71 ERA as a pitcher in limited duty on the mound.
Receiving honorable mention all-region honors was freshman pitcher
Abby Schmidt. Schmidt was 11-4 on the mound for Iowa Lakes with a
2.97 ERA and 49 strike outs.
The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team finished the season
with a 34-18 record. Three out of the past four years Iowa Lakes has
topped the 30 win plateau and the 34 wins this season was the second
most in college history.
