BOUND SUMMER AWARDS BANQUET RECOGNIZES STUDENTS Upward
Bound held its annual Summer Awards Banquet on Tuesday, July 16, 2002. Awards were given in the following categories: Critical
Thinking
instructor Lisa Oberg presented the class medal to Stephanie Quee of
Greenville. Certificates were
presented to Dani Mundus and Tiffany Robeson of Emmetsburg and Alicia
Shackelford of Wesley. Math
instructor Jeanette Frambach awarded the math medal to Courtney Dingel of
Harris Lake Park; certificates went to Erik Gramenz and Brandon Rowley of
Algona, Joe Poyzer and Leah Salton –Ayrshire, Steve Reighard from
Estherville, Maya Odom of Graettinger, Stephanie Quee of Greenville, and
Alicia Shackelford of Wesley. Maya
Odom received the Science medal from Dr. Courtney
Carmichael-Schwartz, Science instructor.
Certificate winners in Science included: Mike Metzen and Brandon
Rowley-Algona, Jake O’Clair and Bob Scott-Emmetsburg, Emily Merryman and
Nolan Merryman-Milford. Spanish
instructor Molly Graettinger presented Stephanie Quee with the Spanish
medal. Honorable Mention awards
went to; Brandon Rowley and Casey Waechter-Algona, Amanda Smith of Dickens,
Dani Mundus and Tiffany Robeson-Emmetsburg, Natalie McHugh -Estherville,
Courtney Dingel-Harris Lake Park, and Manji Butters-Spencer. English
instructor
Bobbi Fedderson presented English awards to the following students: English
medal winner was Courtney Dingel of Harris Lake Park.
Honorable Mention certificates winners were, Mike Metzen –Algona,
Dani Mundus-Emmetsburg, Brian Leek of Estherville, Manji Butters and Keshia
Meissner from Spencer, and C.J. Pesante of Spirit Lake.
Instructor Fedderson also awarded Emily Merryman of Milford with a
medal in Reading, certificates in reading went to Casey Waechter from Algona
and Tom Sorenson of Terrill. A Creative
Writing medal award went to Brian Leek of Estherville for his piece
entitled “That Girl (The One From Your Dreams).”
Honorable Mention certificate winners included Josh Phelps-Arnolds
Park “Incorrect Cupid”, Christina Laage-Fenton “The Flame”,
Julia Mohler-Graettinger “Gone” and Courtney Dingel-Harris
Lake Park for “No One is the Winner”. Medals
were awarded to those Upward Bound students who earned them in the Upward
Bound Olympics held on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa on
July 15, 2002. Several Spirit
and Sportsmanship Awards were presented for those who displayed
outstanding enthusiasm and sportsmanship during the 2002 Upward Bound
Olympics. Highest
GPA for
the 2001-2002 year went to Tiffany Robeson of Emmetsburg, Most
Improved GPA for
the year was presented to Jon Rolfson from Estherville, Top
Student Award-Courtney
Dingel of Harris Lake Park. Honorable
Mention certificates went to Brandon Rowley from Algona, Jessica Albrant-Emmetsburg,
Emily Merryman-Milford, Keshia Meissner and Leah Salton of Spencer, and
Alicia Shackelford of Wesley. Top
Bridge Student Award-Traci
Geitzenauer of Lone Rock. University
of Okoboji Awards for
2002 go to Rachael Seavert and Missy Serr both of Royal, Iowa. 2001-2002
Upward Bound Student Hall of Fame Inductees include: Kory
Bastian-Estherville, Christina Laage-Fenton, Rachael Seavert and Missy Serr
of Royal. The
following individuals were inducted into the 2001-2002 Upward Bound Hall
of Fame for their outstanding support of the program: Graettinger
High School Instructor-Molly Graettinger, Also
inducted into the 2001- 2002 Upward Bound Hall of Fame were; Dan &
Claudia Seavert and Don & Tina Serr of Royal (Parents of recent
Upward Bound graduates). |
