‘NEW YEAR’ BEGINS FOR IOWA LAKES TRUSTEES

Three newly-elected Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College took the oath of office at their meeting Tuesday night.

Ann Barry, Spencer; Bud Kyle, Milford; and Jan Lund, Estherville; were administered the oath of office following the acceptance of election results and the adjournment of the ‘old’ Board of Trustees.  Each was re-elected during voting last month.

The Trustees then re-elected Jack Tatman, Spirit Lake, as the President of the Iowa Lakes Trustees.  John Hand, Emmetsburg, was re-elected to the position of Vice President.  In addition, Clark Marshall was appointed to serve as secretary, and, Bob L’Heureux (LURE) as treasurer.  Committee assignments were made and depository institutions were designated.

The Iowa Lakes Report featured the Aviation Program based at the Estherville Campus.  The program has been training pilots for nearly 20 years.  Chief Flight Instructor Ron Duer and Instructor Pat Hall said many graduates of the program serve as pilots of Midwest-based airlines.  The program uses eight, well-equipped aircraft and offers one-on-one flight instruction to its 50+ students.  Three students were on hand for the meeting and told the Trustees why they selected the aviation program at Iowa Lakes and then talked about their plans for the future.

In other business, the Trustees purchased the land ‘under’ the Aviation classroom at the Estherville Airport.  They also rejected bids for the Student Center at the Estherville Campus citing the fact that the bids came in above architectural estimates.  They then gave staff approval to redesign plans for an Estherville Campus Student Center.  And, the Trustees directed staff to pursue the sale of a parcel of land near the Emmetsburg Campus.

At the end of the meeting, the Trustees heard routine reports from other members serving on statewide and regional boards.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Nov. 19.
