October 11, 2002 FALL PRAIRIE RESCUE DAY IS OCT. 19 The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has designated Saturday, Oct. 19, as this year’s Fall Prairie Rescue Day. In conjunction with this statewide event, the Iowa Lakes Community College Conservation Club will be hosting a volunteer work day at Fort Defiance State Park to help restore some of Iowa’s most endangered native landscape and learn more about this area’s prairie heritage. Activities are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Participants are needed to help clear woody and invasive species, burn brush piles and collect prairie seeds. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves, boots, water and appropriate clothing for variable weather. A limited number of tools will be provided at the site.
