SPEAKERS FINALIZED FOR FAMILY FARM SEMINAR
AT IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The speakers have been announced for the Ag-Link seminar planned next month at Iowa Lakes Community College.

John Baker, a long-time advocate for family farms and the founder of Ag-Link will be featured both days.  Baker will address key issues for farm planning.  Baker urges farm families to identify values and visions which will enhance the chances of keeping the family farm intact.

Jim Higgins, a Certified Public Accountant from Spencer, will share his views on the optimum way to plan for the transfer of assets, money and management of the family farm.

Kathy Hall, of the Iowa Mediation Services, is considered the state expert in structuring family business meetings and resolving conflicts.  She’ll share her thoughts about the best way to deal with unsettled differences.

Other speakers include: Loren Book, who will talk about setting goals; Ron Hook, who will address issues related to strategic business planning; Barb Wollan who will offer expertise in retirement planning; and, Mitzi and Scott Mickelsen, who will share their personal experiences and views on communication practices.

The two-day seminar is schedule for Nov. 18 and 19 at the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes.  The Beginning Farmer Center, Iowa State University Extension, Iowa Lakes Community College, Campbell, Higgins and Associates P.C. and Resolution Solutions Consulting Services are sponsoring this event.

This is the first year Iowa Lakes Community College has offered the family farm seminar in conjunction with the Beginning Farmer Center.

“I am looking forward to working with you and I hope that this is the inaugural event of a long and mutually beneficial relationship between the Beginning Farmer Center and Iowa Lakes Community College,” said John Baker, administrator of the Beginning Farmer Center.
