FOREST RIDGE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS NAMED

With the mission to prepare troubled youth for the future, Forest Ridge Youth Services provides residential treatment for adolescents in Emmet County.  In an effort to encourage individuals to pursue careers related to improving the lives of youth in the region, a Forest Ridge Scholarship has been set up at Iowa Lakes Community College.

Those receiving the scholarship must be full-time students in their second year of college at Iowa Lakes Community College and be enrolled in the Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice/Correction, Human Services/Disability Studies, Early Childhood Education, or Sociology/Social Work Transfer Programs.  Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA while at Iowa Lakes and high consideration is given to the students that show an interest in community service activities, demonstrating positive character.

The 2002-03 recipients are James Bates of Estherville and Seth Nelson of Vail, Iowa.  Both are students in the Criminal Justice program at the Estherville Campus.  James as a non-traditional student has returned to college to fulfill a lifelong dream of a career in law enforcement.  He stated, “I would like to thank Forest Ridge for the opportunity to continue my education.”  After his graduation in May 2003, James hopes to secure a full-time job in law enforcement somewhere in the local area.

Seth will also graduate in May 2003 and wishes to pursue a job in local law enforcement, with a long-term goal of becoming a sheriff in southwest Iowa.  He is most appreciative to Forest Ridge for sponsoring these scholarships and said, “It is gratifying to be acknowledged for my hard work and dedication toward my future career in law enforcement.”
