CAPTAIN AL HAYNES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS NAMED

Four Iowa Lakes students have received scholarships thanks to an anonymous gift made in honor of an airline pilot.

April Duer of Estherville, Ryan Jacobsen of Sioux City, Kris Jose of Newton and Thomas Woythal of Mason City received scholarships which honor Captain Al Haynes.

Hanes was the pilot of United flight 232 which made an emergency landing in Sioux City in 1989.  It was Captain Haynes’ piloting skills that allowed so many to survive the crash.  He was the featured speaker at Iowa Lakes Community College’s Senior Fun and Wellness day earlier this year at the Smith Wellness Center in Emmetsburg.

Those interested in establishing a scholarship in memory or in honor of an individual, are asked to contact Beth Kraft at the Iowa Lakes Community College Institutional Advancement/Foundations Office at 712-362-0410 or 800-242-5106 Ext. 410 or e-mail bkraft@iowalakes.edu.
