TRUSTEES RECEIVE UPDATE ON
GRAPHIC DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

The members of the Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College were given an update Tuesday on the Graphic Design and Technology program at the college.

Instructor/coordinator Debbie Gage told the Trustees about the program; and student Sara Oechsle (OX-LEY) of Fairmont, Minn., shared her enthusiasm about the learning experiences available in the program.  And, Gage showed the graphic design work of another student, Aaron Kyle of Milford, and outlined the steps that need to be taken to complete a project.

The program offers students the option of taking either three or five terms and includes an internship. Students can receive a diploma in either Print Specialist or Graphic Specialist after the first year of courses.  Those who continue for the second year receive an Associate in Science Degree in Graphic Design and Technology and, if desired, may transfer to a four-year college.

The meeting then turned to building issues.  After reviewing drawings and specifications, the Trustees voted to let bids for construction of a new Student Center at the Estherville Campus.  It’s expected that bids will be back in time for the Trustees to make a firm decision at their September meeting about proceeding with the project.  At the Emmetsburg Campus, the Trustees approved a change order for the four-plex on that campus.  The facility will be completed in time for 16 students to occupy the four-plex when classes begin in late August.

The meeting also included information from the Trustees on several boards and councils on which they serve.  In addition, the Trustees approved the list of candidates for summer graduation.

The next meeting of the Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, Aug. 27th in Estherville.
