IRISH DIGNITARY FEATURED AT IOWA LAKES CONVOCATION

As part of the 2002 St. Patrick’s Day celebration Emmetsburg, Iowa Lakes Community College will host the community’s Irish dignitary for the college’s convocation and lecture series.

Dan Neville, will appear on both campuses March 15 – at 9 a.m. in the Estherville auditorium and then at 11 a.m. in the Emmetsburg auditorium.  Neville is a member of the Irish Parliament and will represent the Republic of Ireland at Emmetsburg during the 2002 St. Patrick’s Day Celebration the week of March 10.

Neville was born in Croagh in 1946 and currently resides in Kiltannan, Croagh, County Limerick.  He is married to the former Goretti O’Callaghan and they have two sons and two daughters.  He was educated at Adare CBS, Co. Limerick; University of Limerick, School of Management Studies; University College, Cork (Industrial Engineering, Personnel Management and Social Science.)  Prior to becoming a full-time public representative, he was a personnel manager.

Having the Irish Dignitary on the two main campuses offers students the unique opportunity to share information and culture from Ireland through direct personal stories and experiences.

Neville’s other credits include being a new Dail deputy; Fine Gael spokesperson on Children since 1997; a former Senator, Labour Panel for eight year; Deputy leader of Fine Gael in the Seanad and spokesperson on Justice and Law Reform for five year.

Additional work includes being a member of the Limerick County Council since 1985; Mid-Western Health Board since 1991; Association of Health Boards since 1991; and the General Council of County Councils since 1991.

His wife will accompany him on the trip to Emmetsburg.

Emmetsburg is the sister city to Dublin, Ireland, and the two cities cooperate throughout the year, but especially around St. Pat’s Day.
