DECEMBER PARENT EDUCATION MEETING PLANNED

With the holidays fast approaching, the Parent Education workshops for December will focus on quick and easy ideas to make the holidays stress-free and enjoyable for families, with little expenditure of precious resources.

The Tues., December 10 workshops will be held at Demoney Elementary School, 109 South 17th Street, Estherville.  The first workshop topic for the evening will be “Make-It and Take-It” which will feature hands-on preparation of seasonal decorations that both children and parents will enjoy working on together.  Mary Hart, Forest Ridge Foster Care Program will be the presenter.  Lois Creech, Registered Dietitian, will present the second workshop “Good Eats and Tasty Treats”.  This workshop will encourage families with children of all ages to prepare, serve and enjoy healthful yet festive foods for the holidays.

Both topics will be offered twice during the evening, with a light meal provided between the sessions.  The first session is 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., supper is served 6:30 – 7 p.m., and the second session is 7 – 8 p.m.  Participants can attend one or both of the sessions.  Free childcare and Hispanic translation will be provided.

These family workshops are planned for anyone interested in the health and well being of infants, children and teens.  Parents (custodial and noncustodial), foster parents, grandparents, teachers, childcare providers, and other community members are invited to attend.

Looking ahead, the January 14th topics for the family workshops will be: “Gearing Up for Winter Survival” and “Stretching the Family Dollar”.

Preregistration for the workshops is not necessary.  Questions may be directed to Linda Wiegman, Parent Education Coordinator, 712-362-7926 or 1-800-242-5106.
