YOUNG CHILDREN CAN EXPERIENCE FARM LIFE ‘UP CLOSE’
AT THE CLAY COUNTY FAIR

Young children, who live in cities and small towns and have never had the opportunity to go to a farm, will have the chance to get close to baby pigs the first weekend of the Clay County Fair.

The Agriculture Production Swine Technology Program coordinator will be at the fair with baby pigs from Saturday Sept. 7 until noon on Tuesday Sept. 10 in the fair’s Swine Barn.

Children will have the opportunity to hold a baby pig on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 7 and 8).  Parents are encouraged to bring a camera.

The baby pigs will be on display in the Swine Barn through Tuesday noon.

Marv Carlson, Associate Professor at Iowa Lakes Community College, and students from throughout Iowa who are enrolled in the Agriculture Production Technology Program will be available to help fair goers.  In addition to the baby pigs, the display will feature free pork informational materials including recipes and food safety pamphlets; information about the program at the College; and other pork industry information.

“If you want to ‘root’ in the pig pen and find out a little something about the pork industry, come to the Clay County Fair Swine Barn,” Carlson said.
