STUDENTS TRAVEL TO DES MOINES FOR SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT

Two charter busloads of students from Iowa Lakes Community College Emmetsburg Campus will travel Tuesday to Des Moines to offer a helping hand at Bethel Mission.

Students will paint, rake leaves, and help prepare and serve food at the mission which is a homeless shelter in the capitol city of Iowa.

“This is the second year we’ve done something like this,” said Bill Lapczenski, Student Senate Advisor on the Emmetsburg Campus.  “Last year we went to Mary’s Place in Minneapolis.  It was an eye-opening experience which allowed students to give of themselves around the holidays.”

Like last year, students are again collecting clothing and personal hygiene items which they will take with them on the trip.   Again, the trip is being organized as part of a Human Relations course requirement.

Students planning on taking the trip include those from the Construction Technology program, Welding program, Auto Collision and Paint Technology as well as the Marine and Small Engine, and, Motorcycle and Small Engine programs. In addition, student senators will travel to Des Moines.
