A Cooperative Training Agreement has been signed which will expand the influence of the Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program at Iowa Lakes Community College to the Republic of Turkey.
Ethan Hunter, Co-Founder and President of Wind Academy Group, LLC, and Valerie Newhouse, College President, signed the agreement on Wednesday, May 22, following approval of the Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes. Iowa Lakes instructors will teach industry professionals from the Republic of Turkey who will prepare technicians to work on turbines in Turkey through non-credit training.
The Wind Energy program at Iowa Lakes is touted across the nation as the premier academic program to prepare technicians for a career within the dynamic wind industry and is one of the first colleges to achieve the American Wind Energy Association Seal of Approval.
The agreement signed on Wednesday provides for a systematic approach to implementing a Train-the-Trainer program. Industry professionals from Turkey will spend 12 weeks at the college gaining knowledge about the characteristics of a successful wind technician.
While in Estherville, the trainers will learn how to engage and assess the future technicians in Turkey through this immersion experience and return to their country to prepare a wind energy workforce.
Wind Energy program instructors will continue to serve as mentors to the trainers as the Wind Academy-Turkey is launched by Hunter.
