A new game design class is planned for the coming spring term at Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Introduction to Video Game Development class will introduce students to all aspects of the game development process. Included in the coursework will be a brief history of the gaming industry and then students will delve into the specific design phases.
All class participants will experience hands-on coursework.
Other features of the class include emphasis on the development of the design document and an evaluation of real-world examples. In addition, students who take this class will understand character design and storyboarding as well as gaming genres and gaming consoles. Technical topics presented in the course include game theory (discussed briefly), algorithms and problem solving techniques.
The course is scheduled from 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays on the Estherville campus starting Jan. 9.
Those interested may apply to the college – either online (www.iowalakes.edu) or at any Iowa Lakes campus and then register for the class. The course number for the class is CIS-146. It is limited to the first 18 students who register. Class seats are filling up fast.
