The Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College began their new year during a meeting Tuesday afternoon in Estherville.
After approving the agenda and accepting the minutes of the last meeting, Clark Marshall, Board Secretary, called the ‘organizational’ meeting to order.
The first item was to elect the President of the Iowa Lakes Trustees. Janice Lund was re-elected. Lund then presided over the meeting as Pat Kibbie was re-elected to the position of Vice President of the Board of Trustees. In addition, Lund appointed Scot Bauermeister of the Fitzgibbons Law Firm as the official College Attorney; Clark Marshall was named acting board secretary with a term ending Oct. 31 of this year; Tony Condon was selected as Board Secretary effective Nov. 1 2012, until the next organizational meeting of the Trustees; and Bob L’Heureux was appointed treasurer. Other business included the selection of depository institutions.
Student leaders were the focus of the Iowa Lakes Report for October. The college has student senators at each campus – Algona, Emmetsburg, Estherville, Spencer and Spirit Lake. Those at the meeting introduced themselves; talked about why they’re glad they selected Iowa Lakes; and shared information on activities in which they have participated as well as goals for the college year.
Also present at the meeting were Resident Assistants who have leadership responsibilities in the housing units. The Trustees were introduced to Graduate Assistants who typically help in the coaching of athletics in addition to housing supervision. And, those involved in the Student Ambassador Program talked about giving campus tours and participating in area events, including parades.
In other business, the Trustees listened to reports on the college foundation as well as college facilities, identity theft prevention, climate commitment and emergency procedures.
The next meeting of the Trustees will be on Tuesday, Nov. 20 in Estherville.
