The Spring 2013 Commencement Ceremony for Iowa Lakes Community College will be held Friday, May 10. Following the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters, 560 students have completed or are in progress to complete the requirements for their degrees or diplomas at Iowa Lakes. Nearly 318 students plan to attend the Commencement Ceremony.
The ceremony will start at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Estherville Campus. Guests are advised to arrive early to ensure seating.
Attendees at the commencement exercises will be welcomed by College President Valerie Newhouse. Janice Lund, President of the Board of Trustees, will acknowledge the Trustees.
Keynote speaker this year is Dani Huston, Associate in Arts Degree student. Huston is from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and has been playing soccer while attending college. She will be introduced by Mary Faber, Spencer Campus Director.
Mark Gruwell, Executive Dean of Instruction and Development, will lead the special recognition section of the evening which will include Ann Wimmer, Economics Professor, introducing the Presidential Scholars and Jolene Rogers, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, presenting the Jim Hall Outstanding Alumnus Award.
Gruwell will then lead the Presentation of the Candidates followed by Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees Vice President Pat Kibbie who will conduct the Conferring of the Degrees and Diplomas.
Laure Miller, Nursing Associate Professor, and Colleen Peltz, Developmental Studies Professor, will direct the roll call of candidates. President Newhouse will present the Diplomas and Degrees.
This will be the sixth year that the commencement exercises will be Webcast. Those who are unable to make the ceremony in person may still watch the event by logging onto the college Website at www.iowalakes.edu and then clicking on Spring Commencement Live Broadcast and following the directions.
After the ceremony, everyone is cordially invited to attend a reception to be held in the college 4-plex.
