Laker’s Men Basketball Graduate Assistant Accepts Job

July 24, 2013

After his two seasons as the Iowa Lakes Community College men’s basketball graduate assistant, Mike Annese has accepted an assistant coach position at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.
The Bulldogs ended last season with a 10-17 overall record and 7-11 in the Missouri/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).  Truman State shifted to the Great Lakes Valley Conference on July 1, 2013.  They are also a member of NCAA Division II athletics.
“Very excited for Mike and his opportunity at Truman State,” said Laker Head Coach Troy Larson. “Being at Truman under Matt Woodley will be an a great place for Mike to learn and to continue to develop as a coach.”
While at Iowa Lakes, Annese helped lead the Lakers to a 43-22 record, in which they won the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season title for the first time in school history and the Region 11 championship resulting in Iowa Lakes 4th national tournament appearance. He also earned a master’s degree in Higher Education through Iowa State University.
“This is what our graduate assistant program is all about, have professionals get their masters and then move on to the next level,” Larson commented.  “Mike did an outstanding job for us and worked extremely hard.  He has a bright future as a coach – we will miss him.”
Prior to his two seasons as a graduate assistant, Mike played collegiately at Colorado State University, where he played three seasons under head coach Tim Miles.
