The head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College has taken a new head coaching position.
Ammon Bennett has accepted a head coach position at Utah State University-Eastern.
Bennett was appreciative of his time with Iowa Lakes.
“I want to thank Iowa Lakes Community College for giving me the opportunity to coach the men’s and women’s soccer programs over the last three seasons,” he said. “I have enjoyed my time here and hope only for the best for the college, the athletic program and the soccer teams.”
Bennett was selected as the Lakers’ head coach in 2011. A Utah Native, Bennett’s new position allows him to be closer to family.
“This job above anything else puts me closer to both me and my wife’s family as we are both from the beehive state,” Bennett commented. “The move also will put me closer to so many of the athletes that I have recruited over the years. I literally have brought hundreds of soccer players from Utah to Iowa over the last 14 years so I look at this as an opportunity to go back home.”
Bennett had an impact on countless student-athletes during his three-year campaign compiling a 38-19-3 record with the women and a 19-38 record with the men. He coached numerous All-Region players and had his teams playing at the championship level.
“It really was a tough decision as I felt the soccer programs here at Iowa Lakes were very close to winning a regional championship,” he said. “The women’s team in particular was nationally ranked and had played with and defeated several top ranked teams. For this, I am very proud as a coach.”
Bennett will be missed.
“Ammon did a good job in his three years at Iowa Lakes as our head men’s and women’s soccer coach,” Athletic Director Troy Larson said. “We wish him well in his new opportunity.”
A search for Coach Bennett’s replacement will begin immediately.
