A KidWind Project® professional development workshop will be hosted at the Wind Energy and Turbine Technology facility of Iowa Lakes Community College the first week of December.
Teachers from northwest Iowa have been invited to the workshop to learn how to teach wind energy.
The main purpose of a KidWind teacher training is to introduce teachers to the science and engineering of wind energy and turbines and to share ideas and lesson plans on how to teach K-12 students about the concepts of wind energy.
The workshop will also help teachers learn how to use KidWind equipment, explore Windwise curriculum and how to participate in the KidWind Challenge.
Next year, Iowa Lakes will host a KidWind Challenge Event for young students – and parents. The wind energy competition will allow the students to create their own wind turbines and then test them in a wind tunnel.
The workshop will be on Thursday, Dec. 6. Individuals interested in participating in the workshop who have not been contacted may apply online at http://learn.kidwind.org/node/3243.
