The Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes formalized a partnership agreement with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) in March of 2012. The Trustees then approved Iowa Lakes joining the NC3 as the nation’s only Renewable Energy Leadership Center.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Iowa Lakes to continue to be a leader in renewable energy education and provide industry recognized certifications for new and existing technicians,” said Jolene Rogers, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at Iowa Lakes.
With a shared belief in forging strong partnerships between education and industry to meet the workforce needs for skilled technicians, NC3 and Iowa Lakes Community College have partnered to, among other initiatives, begin implementing and developing new NC3 skills certifications particularly in the area of Wind Energy & Turbine Technology. This step further strengthens Iowa Lakes’ position as a leader in Wind Energy & Turbine Technology.
“We look forward to this partnership to continue to advance our leadership position in Wind Energy and other fields. This partnership with NC3 will positively impact the entire Wind Industry as we focus on developing the most highly skilled workers possible,” Rogers said.
From NC3’s perspective, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Iowa Lakes Community College as a new member of our team of national education leaders. The energy and vision that Iowa Lakes embodies will add substantially to the organization’s constellation of education and industry workforce leaders and truly make a difference in the growing field of Wind Energy,” said Dan Ramirez, NC3 Director of Marketing & Development.
As the energy industry evolves, it is important that students are equipped with a diverse skill set to meet the energy service needs of both today and tomorrow. This Industry Certification will put students – as well as current technicians – in high demand with both public and private energy providers.
In addition to certifications, NC3 is excited to bring together industry partners Trane, a leader in energy systems, and Snap-on, a leader in tools and solutions for skilled workers, to provide Iowa Lakes with deep industry expertise in energy and skilled workers. One of the first initiatives for the Trane and Snap-on partners will be to assist Iowa Lakes in the building and facilitation of creating a state-of-the-art and green energy training facilities for future and existing technicians.
Iowa Lakes, as the Energy Leadership Center, will be integral in developing specific certifications in areas such as safety, tool management and diagnostics/trouble shooting. A customer service certification is also being developed. The college will be utilizing the facility, once it’s renovated, located on the property adjacent to the existing Wind Energy and Turbine Technology classroom site. Renovations are anticipated to begin this fall.
