Iowa Lakes Nursing Programs Repeat Their Accreditation

October 12, 2012

The Nursing programs at Iowa Lakes Community College have received accreditation from the Iowa Board of Nursing.

All colleges in Iowa which provide nursing programs must be reviewed and accredited every six years. The accreditation process involves an extensive self-study, followed by a visiting team of evaluators. In late April, 2012 the team of evaluators conducted a two-day, on-site visit at the Emmetsburg campus. This visit included interviews with staff, students and administrators as well as review of the college’s facilities and equipment. Area hospitals and nursing homes which partner with Iowa Lakes by providing clinical sites for students to gain experience and practice their professional skills are also part of the review process.

Iowa Lakes was notified in late September of ‘full approval’ for the next six years from the Iowa Board of Nursing. This accreditation includes both the daytime and evening/weekend sections of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and the Practical Nursing (PN) in Emmetsburg, Algona, Spirit Lake and Spencer.

“This process ensures the credibility and validity of our programs,” said Bernadette Wise, Director of Nursing and Health Education.  “This accreditation provides us with an opportunity to continue to review and revise our nursing program based on suggested recommendations. We appreciate the Iowa Board of Nursing for endorsing the nursing program at Iowa Lakes Community College.”

The Iowa Lakes Nursing program is also accredited by the Iowa Department of Education.  In addition, Iowa Lakes Community College is accredited as an institution by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, Illinois.
