Iowa Lakes Men’s Basketball Breaks into Top 25 Poll

November 16, 2012

The Iowa Lakes Community College Men’s Basketball earns the 16th rank in this week’s NJCAA Div. II top 25 coaches’ poll.
“It’s an honor for our current players for how hard they have been working,” Head Coach Troy Larson stated when asked about the rankings.  “We need to keep improving like we have been in order to be at our best come tournament time.”
The Lakers have started the season on fire, winning 3 of their first 4 games by an average of 19 points.  They have 3 players averaging in double digit scoring; leading the way is Kelly Madison from Des Moines, IA putting up 22.5 points per game (1st in the conference and 17th in the nation), followed by Ben Shellim from Melbourne, Australia with 14 and Deondre Parks from Flint, Mich. adding 13.5.  The Lakers have been out rebounding their opponents by 8 boards per game; Josh Schaben from Harlan, IA has been a big factor in that stat pulling down 8 a game (2nd in conference) himself.
Iowa Lake’s next action is Nov. 18th at Southeastern, a NJCAA Div. I Community College, then on Nov. 20th at Clinton Community College, their first conference game of the year.  The Lakers will be back at home on Nov. 27th when they face Iowa Western Community College another NJCAA Div. I program.
