Stephanie Weisman Wheatley teaches leadership, English and composition classes at Estherville Lincoln Central School District, but she still remembers her time as a student in the paralegal program at Iowa Lakes Community College.
“Iowa Lakes gave me a general education that I needed to take to the next level,” Wheatley said. “I was able to study the basics that eventually transferred to a four-year university. ILCC was affordable and taught me many life skills that I continue to use in my life still today.”
Wheatley earned her associate’s degree from Iowa Lakes in 1994. She transferred on to the University of South Dakota, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and continued her education at Southwest Minnesota State, where she got a Master of Arts degree in educational leadership.
While she was at Iowa Lakes, she received several scholarships, including one for softball — her favorite campus activity. She especially appreciated now-retired teacher Doug Lietz.
“Mr. Lietz was great!” Wheatley said. “He made things applicable to the real world. That’s something every student needs to see!”
