Free help is being offered this coming Saturday (Feb. 16) to those who would like assistance in how to complete Financial Aid paperwork for college.
As part of a statewide effort of the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Iowa Lakes is providing a workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Emmetsburg campus. Information on Financial Planning, Essays for Scholarships, Online Scholarship Tips and on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are available.
“While we call it College Goal ‘Sunday,’ it’s actually this coming Saturday,” said T.J. Thayer, Educational Talent Search Coordinator at Iowa Lakes. “We’ll have experts on hand throughout the day to provide personal assistance to each family.”
The help is beneficial to everyone.
“One of the biggest steps is the first step, which is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid which is also known as the ‘FAFSA’,” said Thayer. “It doesn’t matter where you’re going to college, this is a valuable tool.”
Throughout the day, walk-in assistance from experts on how to complete the FAFSA will be offered in room 330 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Emmetsburg campus.
Those attending are encouraged to secure a federal personal identification number at www.pin.ed.gov before the event. And, they are asked to download a FAFSA worksheet which can be found at www.fafsa.gov.
In addition, a checklist of items to bring may be found at www.IowaCGS.org. Participants are encouraged to click on the ‘Resources’ tab and then open the ‘What to Bring’ document. Anyone with questions about College Goal Sunday may contact T.J. Thayer at 712-852-5354.
