Huzzah and good tidings! The lorde and layde of the castle request the honor of your presence at the Fourteenth Annual Elizabethan Madrigal Feaste. This year’s festivities will again be held in a neighboring castle, The Estherville VFW, on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at half-past six in the evening.
In Merrie Olde England, the extravagant Christmas Feastes were an annual custom to rejoice and toast the Twelve Days of Christmas. The Madrigal Feaste is a tribute to those jolly times, recreating some of the most important traditions including: the procession of the Boar’s Head, the Jester’s hi-jinks, strolling carolers, Wassail toasts, flaming pudding, and a special royal dessert. Renaissance costumes will be worn by our performers, and are optional for our guests.
Royal guests will be served a delicious six-course meal, but unlike a true Renaissance meal, silverware will be provided. Guests will also have an opportunity to participate in some hilarious comedic entertainment and enjoy the sounds of the season. Performers include the Royal Iowa Lakes Chamber Choir, My Layde of the Lakers Handbell Ringers, The King’s Brass Ensemble and Her Majesty’s Recorder Consort. The VFW’s Wine Keeper will also have wine and ale available for purchase.
Hark! Tickets are $20 per person, payable by Master Card, Lady Visa, or Sir Columbus’ Discover or by cheque payable to the Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department.
Mind ye! Seating is limited and reservations must be received and paid in full by Wednesday, Dec. 4.
