A big day is planned for this Thursday’s Farm Expo and Field Day organized by the Palo Alto Corn and Soybean Association and Iowa Lakes Community College.
The event focuses on technology and looking to the future. Companies with field varieties include Agrigold, Channel, Croplan, Dairyland, Latham, Monsanto, Pioneer, SOI, Stine, Syngenta, Wensman, and Wyffels. Company representatives will be on hand to visit with growers at the test plot. Iowa Lakes students will be hosting van tours of the college crops and animal enterprises for attendees from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Growers are also encouraged to visit with equipment sponsors planning to attend including: Fast Sprayer Distributing, JB Mertz & Sons, Montag Equipment, Petersen Farm Equipment, Spencer International and Woodford Equipment. Other educational displays and participants include Agristrand, LLC, the Iowa Soybean Association as well as the National Resource and Conservation Service.
The meal is free. Donations are appreciated and are used to finance scholarships for students pursuing degrees in any of the Ag programs.
Keynote speaker, Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, will address the group at 6 p.m. under the big tent. In addition, organizers have been advised that John Whitaker of the U.S. Department of Agriculture will also attend the Field Day. He will speak at 5:30 p.m. KICD 107.7 will provide sound for the event.
The Third Annual Tractor Ride will leave the Emmetsburg campus parking lot at 3200 College Drive at 9 a.m. and arrive at the college farm to be on display.
Three items will be awarded through a raffle process: Drawing 1: Two (2) Executive Suite Tickets including transportation to the Minnesota Timberwolves game on January 19. Additional prizes include an electric John Deere child-size tractor with loader and backhoe provided by JB Mertz or a pedal Gleaner provided by Petersen Farm Equipment. As tickets are purchased, prize preference will be indicated on each ticket. Raffle tickets are available for $5 each or 3 for $10. Winner will be drawn at the event, and need not be present to win.

The Farm Expo and Tractor Ride will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the Expo will be moved to the Emmetsburg campus cafeteria. The Expo is held on the west edge of the College Farm Laboratory.
