The Farm Lab of Iowa Lakes Community College will host its annual Farm Field Day and Expo on Thursday, August 30. In addition, the annual Scholarship Tractor Ride will take place.
All area residents, as well as past Ag program alumni of Iowa Lakes, are invited to tour the Palo Alto Corn and Soybean Growers Association plot, various agricultural exhibits and the Farm Laboratory starting at 4:30 p.m. Van tours will be given from 4:30-6:30 p.m. of the college crops and animal enterprises. Dinner will be served from 5-6 p.m. While the meal is free, donations will be accepted to fund Ag program scholarships. Keynote Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, will address the group at 6 p.m.
The Third Annual Tractor Ride will also be held on Aug. 30. Registration for the Tractor Ride can be accomplished in advance by calling 712-362-0425 or visiting www.iowalakes.edu. Registration will start at 8 a.m. the day of the ride in the Emmetsburg campus parking lot at 3200 College Drive. The ride will begin at 9 a.m. and be completed around 3 p.m. Cost is $25. That includes the continental breakfast, lunch, T-shirt and a donation to scholarships for the Ag Programs at Iowa Lakes.
Iowa Lakes has the following agriculture related programs: Ag Business, Ag Production, Ag Transfer, Farm Equipment Diesel Technology and Landscape and Turfgrass.
The Farm Expo and Tractor Ride will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the Expo will be moved to the Emmetsburg campus cafeteria.
