Iowa Lakes Community College students made a difference last week (Thursday, Nov. 1) as they helped clean up clutter around Five Island Lake in Emmetsburg.
The students are in the Ag Farm Management club. One of their instructors – Tom Quastad – had been on the east side of the lake in recent weeks and noticed that there was quite a bit of litter in the area. Club members stepped forward and made quick work out of the project.
Several large bags were collected from a dry creek bed as well as from around the lake.
The Ag Farm Management club has about 30 members. Students in the Agricultural programs at Iowa Lakes learn through both classroom instruction and on-the-job experience, in addition to involvement on the college’s 360-acre Farm Laboratory. At the end of the job, Michael Pace of Hanska, Minn., Garrett Elbert of Whittemore, Eli Gelhaus of Algona, and Dan Irwin of Granada, Minn., pause for a moment before disposing of the trash they had collected.
