Do You Hear the People Sing? Les Misérables, the musical phenomenon that has enthralled spectators all over the globe, is coming to Iowa Lakes Community College next spring!
Iowa Lakes Community College’s production of Les Misérables will be directed by Carol Ayres and Brett Fuelberth. Auditions will be held on January 12 and 13, at 6 p.m. for children ages 8-12, and 7 p.m. for adults, in the community room (72) on the Estherville campus.
Those auditioning should come prepared to sing only. Appropriate songs include musical theater, classical arias or art songs. Please, no pop songs or songs from this show. An accompanist will be provided, bring your own music. Due to the PG-13 material in the show, parents will be asked to attend rehearsals with their children.
Based on the masterwork by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables shares the lives of men, women, and children struggling to survive and make their voices heard against oppression and injustice.
Written by the musical team of Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, the American production of Les Misérables premiered in 1987 on Broadway, winning eight Tony awards and popular acclaim.
