Four area students will represent Iowa Lakes at the national SkillsUSA conference in Kansas City on June 23 through June 27. All first place finishers in the Iowa competitions advance to the national event.
One of those attending - Alex Kenne - is a two-time Iowa champion.
In addition, two high school students will also compete in the national event.
Of the college students, gold medalists (1st place) include: Matt Sedivec, New Hampton, Power Equipment; along with Alex Kenne, Algona, Carpentry. They are in addition to Courtney Groen and Abby Strohman who are Algona high school students who are advancing in TV/Video Production.
Kyle Strube, Estherville, Power Equipment received a silver (2nd place) medal. A third place medal was awarded to Spencer Gossling, New Hampton, Motorcycle; and Austin Schlichte, Granville, Power Equipment.
Students enrolled in the Television Broadcast Media program at Algona High School can earn college credit which offers them advanced status when they enroll at Iowa Lakes Community College.
College students attending Iowa Lakes have a wide choice of programs including the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. Career students preparing for immediate job entry may work toward a diploma or an associate degree.
